CRISÁLIDA

Installation image sourced from CRISÁLIDA website

CRISÁLIDA is the Spanish word for chrysalis

Both artists Ivan and Ash have strong connections to Spain
in particular Catalonia and the Basque Country
where they met
a street photographer
a dancer

An all-seeing blue eye stares through a gossamer cocoon
an all-seeing eye through transparent material
I kid you not

A desire to see into dark shiny spaces
Into something familiar

a dancer moves
reptilian
a fascination for sand
trickling through an hour glass

Infinity suspended by a chain
Time
liquid as treacle

From my kitchen table
this eye follows me
as I write
cook dinner
attempt to
balance cascading papers

An eye into a rehearsal space
A performing space
where reflections deflections are at play

Sand blasts
a cello screeches
the volume turned down low when the gallery is quiet
to think

Blink
Sand buggies race over dunes
animated by breath
Coins spin backwards
quick release

There is a material intimacy
between the flat screen
the mirrored reflections
the hill of shiny material

Movements
InSideOut the gossamer tent

Limbs stack
light defects other storied places
for multiple epochs
to unfold

There is a physical intimacy
in negotiating
language
